Gourmet CoffeeOur coffee roaster, Chauvin Coffee is in its third generation as a coffee roasting company and continues a tradition of coffee roasting in St. Louis. Until the mid-1920s, St. Louis was the largest coffee roasting city in the world with over 75 coffee roasting plants. In the 1800s, brokers and buyers would purchase the coffee beans right off the steamboats that came up the Mississippi River from New Orleans. Coffee from St. Louis was part of the westward expansion of the United States and was considered a staple, along with flour, sugar, salt and smoked meats, taken by people crossing the Great Plains. Many of Chauvin's Coffees are “traditional” or shade grown coffees, which are typically better quality coffees. The method of farming is friendly to the eco-systems of the producing countries. Shade coffees not only preserve the soil, forests, and natural vegetation, but shade coffees support native and migratory animal populations. Shade coffees are planet friendly coffees. Chauvin Coffee strives to offer the finest coffees from around the world. Their years of experience allow them to source coffees from only the best and most reliable suppliers. |
